Oh, The Places You'll Go

Oh, the Places You'll Go! - Dr. Seuss

600L

Pre K - 2

Oh, The Places You'll Go is a book by Dr. Seuss.  This book is about giving credit to all students.  It encourages students to keep trying, and tells them that they can do what ever they set their minds to.  This book would be awesome at either the beginning of the year or the end of the year when the students are moving on to the next grade. It would also be great if a teacher was to notice that her students were not motivated to work hard. I would do an activity and allow students to draw/write about their future and goals that they would like to achieve.  I would read the book and tell them that they could all reach these goals with hard work and dedication.

Rainbow Fish

The Rainbow Fish - Marcus Pfister, J. Alison James

Pre K - 5

This book is about a beautiful/unique fish who learns to make friends by sharing.  I would use this in my classroom in an art lesson.  I would discuss colors and allow them to make their own fish.  I would also use this for a lesson in sharing.  I would make sure that the kids understood that sharing was a great way to make friends, and that they would benefit from always being nice to their friends.

Chicka Chicka 123

Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3 - Bill Martin Jr., Michael Sampson, Lois Ehlert

Pre K-2

Chicka Chicka 123 is about teaching children to count.  The numbers get higher and must climb to the top of an apple tree.  I would use this as a fun way to teach kids in lower grades how to count to 100.  I would love to have the kids make their own books about the number's trip to the top of the apple tree.

A Million Fish...More or Less

A Million Fish...More or Less - Patricia C. McKissack

3-5

A young boy goes fishing in Louisiana.  He learns to tell a story about a million huge fish that he caught.  He determines whether stories that he has heard were more or less.  I would love to use this in a math lesson including less than and more than.
